Eligibility: 10+2 Science exam of H. P. Board of School Education or equivalent in English, Physics, Maths and Chemistry in single sitting. Medical fitness according to the prescribed medical standard is required. There is no age restriction.

Domicile: (i) Passed/appeared in the qualifying exam from the schools located in Himachal Pradesh; (ii) Any state for children/wards of Employees of Himachal Govt./Boards/Corporation/Autonomous bodies and (b) Bonafide students of Himachal Pradesh.

Reservation of seats: Seats are reserved for SC 15%, St 7 ½%, Diploma holders 3 seats and Teachers of Govt. Polytechnics located in HP 3 seats. Those who have passed the qualifying examinations from institutions located outside Himachal Pardesh including bonafide Himachalies shall not send their applications for admission to the College. They may apply to the Regional Engineering College, situated in the respective Regions/States.

Selection is made on the basis of merit in the Objective type Common Pre-Entrance Test (CPET) held in June, at Himachal Pradesh University Campus, Shimla 5: REC Hamirpur: Govt. College, Hamirpur: Government College Dharmashala and GC Mandi. One candidate in each branch also admitted on merit basis from amongst those who have passed their 3-year Diploma Examination in respective branches from the Govt. Polytechnics located in Himachal Pradesh. The candidates who are appearing in Common Pre-Entrance Test (CPET) and intending to seek admission in Regional Engineering College, Hamirpur (HP) and against the seats in other RECs should necessarily and separately apply to the Principal, REC, Hamirpur (HP).
