Tuition fees
and living costs are the two main items you will need to take
into account in estimating the total cost of your study and
residence in the UK.
Annual tuition
fees tend to range from Pounds 6000 to approximately Pounds
9000 depending on the nature of the course. Living expenses in
Britain vary depending on the location but it is wise to
budget for some Pounds 6000 per year giving a total cost of
some Pounds 15,000. When comparing with other alternatives,
however do remember that British courses are honors degrees
and that undergraduate courses can generally be completed in
three years and taught masters programmes in one year. Overall
costs are therefore very competitive.
Distance
learning fees vary considerably depending on the course and
the level of support offered.
Immigration
requirements
Students visas are required for Indian nationals who wish to
study in the United Kingdom and are obtainable from the
offices of the British High Commission and British Deputy High
Commission.
You need to
prove to the institution as well as the Visa Officers that you
have enough financial resources to cover the cost. You can
prove this by;
· a sponsorship letter
· self-support/parents
· loans
· scholarships
Under the
immigration rules a person may be admitted to the United
Kingdom as a student if:
i) he/she
produces evidence that he/she has been accepted for a full
time course of study at a university/a college and devotes at
least 15 hours per week to organized day time study.
Correspondence or evening courses do not meet these
requirements.
ii) he/she can
meet the cost of the course, and his/her own maintenance and
accommodation and those of his/her dependents, without working
and without recourse to public funds. It is acceptable for
support and accommodation and the cost of the study to be
provided by relatives and friends in the UK.
iii) he/she
must also be able, and intend, to follow the course and to
leave the UK on completion of his/her studies.
Applying for
Visa
When applying for a visa students are required to produce the
following to the Visa Officer:
i) completed form IM2A (available from British High Commission
and British Deputy High Commission Offices):
ii) valid passport;
iii) two passport size photographs
iv) visa fee;
v) evidence of educational qualifications (relevant diplomas
or educational certificate);
vi) a letter from the university, college confirming the
students' acceptance for the courses of study in the UK and a
statement of charges for the courses.
vii) Evidence of funds to pay for living expenses and tuition
fees in the UK.
Prospective
students who clearly have a genuine and realistic intention to
study in the UK, but who have not been able to complete
arrangements may be considered for the issue of a provisional
student visa.
Note: Indian
nationals who enter the UK with visitor's visas are not
eligible and will not be permitted to change to student status
while in the UK.
