CAT or Common Admission Test is a prerequisite to get into the IIMs and 6 other prestigious management institutes all over India. A few institutes like XLRI, FMS, IIFT, NITIE, S. P. Jain and TISS hold their own tests. Though certain elements of testing are different, most test areas are the same as CAT.

All entrance tests to management institutes are objective tests. The advantage is that the test setter does all the writing. But answering objectives is not merely marking the right answers. It only means that you have to be precise. Once you mark your preference, there is no scope for ambiguity. For, frequently a really good objective type of question will attempt to probe your knowledge of facts from an unusual angle. Some questions have multiple choices with several "partly" right alternatives. In fact a good objective type of question is likely to have this unusual twist about it.
