1. Admission of Indian
Nationals to Postgraduate Course, with Scholarship/Assistantship, in
Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Pharmacy at Engineering
College / Institutes in the Country will be open only to those who
quality through GATE. 2. GATE is mandatory qualification for self-financing foreign students and children of Indians including nonresident Indians, who hold non-Indian passports but have obtained their qualifying degree from Indian Institutions/Universities, for admission to Postgraduate Programmes. Such admissions will, however be subject to the Government of India clearance and such candidates will not be entitled for Scholarship/Assistantship. 3. The following Categories of candidates are eligible to appear for GATE
4. The Three genral papers viz., XE, XL and XP will comprise of the following Sections:
Candidates appearing in XE, XL, or XP are required to answer THREE sections, one compulsory as mentioned above, and two others of candidate's choice out of the sections mentioned against the respective papers. Candidates appearing in XE,XL, or XP paper are required to be interviewed by the admitting institute 5. Admissions to Post Graduate Programmes in Engineering/Technology etc. is made by individual Institutions. Advertisements for admissions to such institutions appear in Newspapers. Candidates are expected to apply for admission at the appropriate time, complying with all requirement/ instructions of the respective Institutions. 6. The National Co-ordination Board recommends that the following procedure may be followed for admission to Post Graduate Programmes: Where the number of registered candidates in a discipline is more than 200, the candidate writes both Paper I and II. The combined percentile score will be considered as GATE score for admission purposes. In this case not less than 70% weightage is to be given for the GATE percentile score and the remaining up to 30% to the marks obtained by the candidate in his qualifying examination. 7. While qualifying at GATE is essential for all candidates seeking admission to Post Graduate Programmes in Engineering / Technology / Pharmacy / Architecture at any College / University / Institute, admission to such Programmes and award for scholarship is governed by procedures laid down by the Institution to which candidates seek admission. 8. Candidates who qualify at GATE are eligible to Post Graduate Scholarship. However, qualifying at GATE does not automatically guarantee admission / scholarship. 9. Results of the GATE Examination are declared in the form of percentile scores. 10. GATE score, one awarded, is valid for period of two years from its result for the purposes of admission to Post Graduate Programme. Note:- Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has recognised GATE examination as equivalent to national test for the purpose of appointment of Junior Research Fellows in CSIR sponsored schemes/Directors' quota. |
