For admission to this program candidates must have passed biology/life Sciences in addition to chemistry, mathematics and physics at X +2 or equivalent examination. A unique five and half year integrated M.Tech programme in engineering based on life-sciences provides in-depth training in natural, biological, and engineering sciences including computational and management courses. First year course is common as in an engineering discipline. The unique feature of the programme is in-built academic components offering both B.Tech(Horns)and M.Tech degrees. In this programme students will get in-depth theoretical background/training in various disciplines such as Genetics microbial biotechnology; cell biology; molecular biology; downstream processes; genetic engineering etc., while doing related practical classes. This course offers basic process engineering subjects like unit operations and unit processes including instrumentation and control. Design calculation of bio-reactor and other bio-process equipment's are integral part of the course.

The students after completion of this course will get opportunities in various biotechnological industries (e.g pharmaceuticals, antibodies, plant tissue culture, beverage, drug, fermentation and high value chemicals) R&D organizations, academic institutions, process industries, and get opportunities in management of large biological product oriented industries. After successful completion of four year course in this programme, the student will receive B.Tech degree and on completion of further 1½ year study in this programme, he/she will receive M.Tech degree.
