IIT JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) |
Introduction |
Eligibility Criteria Minimum Academic Qualification The minimum academic qualification for admission through JEE is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 system or its equivalent, referred to as the Qualifying Examination in this section. In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board/University) examination at an earlier level. Those appearing in 10+2 final or equivalent examination may also appear in JEE (Screening Test and Main Examination) for consideration of provisional admission. All provisional admissions will stand cancelled if the proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) is not submitted to the concerned Institute. If an applicant is found ineligible at a later date even after admission to an Institute, his/her admission will be cancelled. All admissions will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents of the candidates. The decision of the Joint Admission Board regarding eligibility of any applicant shall be final. For admission to B.Tech. and 5 year Dual Degree in Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering at IIT
Kharagpur, candidate must have had Biology or Life Science as a subject in the qualifying examination (10+2 level).
Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 1, 1975 are eligible. However, in case of SC, ST and PH candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e., those SC, ST and PH candidates who were born on or after October 1, 1970 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate only will be taken as authentic. Candidates must produce in original class X certificate as a proof of their age at the time of counselling, failing which they will be disqualified. It is expected that the candidates will have good general physique. Candidates opting for Mining or Mining Machinery Engineering should make sure that they are free from colour blindness. They will be required to submit a certificate from a registered medical practitioner to this effect at the time of admission. The standard of visual acuity with or without glasses should be strictly observed for candidates seeking admission in Mining as per DGMS circular 14 of 1972. Uniocular persons are unfit for work below ground level. Unsuitability of Women Candidates for Mining Courses Section 46(1) of the Mines Act, 1952 states that "No woman shall, notwithstanding anything contained in any other law, be employed (a) in any part of a mine which is below ground, (b) in any mine above ground except between the hours 6 AM and 7 PM". As a result, a woman candidate cannot complete her practical training and hence cannot obtain the B. Tech degree in Mining or Mining Machinery Engineering. The courses are, therefore, not available for women candidates. |
